Choosing a Suitable Memorial for Cemeteries

In the peaceful and respectful setting of a cemetery or burial ground, these memorials offer families a dedicated space to honour and remember their loved ones. They will be subject to specific regulations set by the relevant Burial Authority which help maintain the appearance, safety, and uniformity of the grounds.

From the choice of stone and style of lettering to the size, shape, and inscriptions, thoughtful planning is essential to ensure the memorial is both personal and compliant with the burial place’s guidelines.

With the right support, a cemetery memorial can serve as a dignified and enduring symbol of remembrance and J.Gumbrill’s team is happy to help you with all the choices you need to make.

Things to consider

Every Burial Authority has its own regulations. We are already familiar with those in our local areas but for a memorial further afield, we will need to obtain these requirements to ensure your chosen memorial meets them before we provide a quote for you. When we send your quote, we will also ask you to review and sign a Memorial Application form which we will then forward to the Burial Authority for approval.

We need to receive their approval before we order the memorial as we will never start the process until we are sure your chosen design will be accepted. It is not unusual for cemeteries and burial grounds to supply guidance around minimum and maximum sizes for memorials and they may charge considerably more if the memorial includes a kerbset or ledger. We will include the appropriate fees in our quote to enable you to make an informed decision and will always advise the implications of your choices upon the overall cost.

Regulations differ and are subject to change but part of our role is to remain up to date with them, and advise you accordingly. We suggest that memorials are always chosen with prevailing regulations in mind.
